We have produced a number of "Quick Change Crib Sheets" for travel to Edinburgh and Glasgow:
We hope to gradually produce more crib sheets... - if you have a particular crib sheet you would like us to work on then please Contact Us.
For other journeys, or if you like more time when changing buses, we are recommending that you use the Stagecoach journey planner to plan your travel - but this doesn't always show all the possible changes at Halbeath because the planner software is set to need more than 5 minutes when changing buses.
To help with planning your journey it can be useful to know that the Stagecoach Express services are designed to provide a regular service between Halbeath Park & Ride and either Edinburgh or Glasgow.
For example, if you want to go to Edinburgh but the next bus is for Glasgow via Halbeath Park & Ride, it will generally be quicker to catch the Glasgow bound bus and change at Halbeath than to wait for a direct Edinburgh bus.
And similarly in the other direction, from Edinburgh or Glasgow it will be quicker to catch any bus that goes to Halbeath Park & Ride and change there to a bus for your intended destination, compared with waiting for the next direct bus.
From Monday 5th May 2025 there is a new service between St Andrews and Halbeath Park & Ride - the JET787 - this service runs about every 2 hours throughout the day. It is not well timed for journeys starting in Crail - but if you find that an X24 towards Halbeath is missing then it may be useful to catch the JET787 instead if that is the next Halbeath bound bus to depart from St Andrews. The JET787 can be more useful in the other direction - from Halbeath to St Andrews - when it may help with journeys early or late in the day.
The X24 between St Andrews and Glasgow and the X59 between St Andrews and Edinburgh are one example - these services are usually set to be roughly half-an-hour apart so that the journey between St Andrews and Halbeath Park & Ride and any points on the route is served every 30 minutes.
Similarly the X58 and X61 between St Andrews and Edinburgh are paired - they depart from (and arrive at) St Andrews at similar times to each other - but by the time the buses get to Leven they are nearer half-an-hour apart so that the sections of their route between Leven and Kirkcaldy and between Ferrytoll & Edinburgh are served roughly every 30 minutes
The X24 between St Andrews and Glasgow and the X27 between Leven/Kirkcaldy and Glasgow form a pair at the other end of their journeys - providing a service every 30 minutes between Halbeath Park & Ride and Glasgow.
At Halbeath Park & Ride buses are often given around 5 minutes in their timetables to exchange passengers with similar services.

"ember" are running electric buses between Dundee and Glasgow and these along with Megabus coaches mean that it's possible to travel to Glasgow later in the day than just using the Stagecoach Express buses - it's also possible to use these services to get from Glasgow to Crail earlier in the day - ember timetables change frequently.
Flixbus have also added more services between Dundee and Glasgow and between Dundee, Halbeath and Edinburgh.
Travelling to Edinburgh Airport or Ingliston? The JET 747 between Halbeath, Ferrytoll and Edinburgh Airport runs every 20 minutes from Monday 26th June 2023.
For flexibility in changing buses when you want, for example if services are delayed and you decide to change your planned route, we recommend a Day ticket - if you need onward bus travel in Edinburgh then we recommend the "One-Ticket"...
Maps of the stances at various Bus Stations are available on our sister Leven Bus website:
Looking for the fastest route to Cupar? You'll need to catch the 95 towards St Andrews, so the service is only once an hour. The Moffat & Williamson 64 bus to Cupar via Ceres no longer connects well with the 95 and you are recommended to stay on the 95 to St Andrews Bus Station for an X24 or X59 or even a 787?
