St Andrews South Street roadworks postponed
Part of South Street in St Andrews (shown in red on the map) will be closed for a second time this year between Tuesday 10th March and Thursday 12th March.
Those journeys of the 95 towards St Andrews that normally use South Street are due to divert from the Byre Theatre turning right past the cathedral towards North Street then turning left down Union Street and on to Church Street to return to South Street and their normal route (shown in green on the map).
Journeys from St Andrews Bus Station are due to travel along Market Street but continue to Union Street and then on to North Street and so on to the Byre Theatre (shown in yellow on the map).
This diversion is likely to take longer to travel than the normal route, due to the inclusion of a number of right turns and the extra traffic on these routes, so buses may run later than normal.
There is a simpler diversion (shown in purple on the map), avoiding Union Street and Market Street and instead travelling the length of North Street, which is usually used when there are roadworks in St Andrews - and it is possible that some bus drivers will use this diversion instead.
We would therefore normally recommend that you aim to board the 95 either at the Bus Station or opposite the Byre Theatre if you are catching the 95 from St Andrews between these dates.
But in the previous period where roadworks happened at the same site we have had one example of a 95 driver leaving St Andrews travelling via Church Street as per the normal 95 route, being forced right onto South Street then Bell Street and giving up on Market Street (which was no doubt in its normal busy and double parked state) and choosing to follow the evening 95 route - consequently missing out the Byre Theatre stop.
So, it may be safest to aim to catch the 95 at St Andrews Bus Station until the roadworks are complete!
Starting Thursday 12th February 2026 buses will operate from a temporary bus station in the Promenade Car Park. This is to allow resurfacing of Leven Bus Station Concourse.
The work is estimated to take 5 weeks.
Traveline Scotland have published a list of changes due from both Stagecoach and Moffat & Williamson on Monday 24th November 2025.
Moffat & Williamson are making significant changes to deal with the Stagecoach alterations to the 65 and to routes around Tayport.
For ideas to use the new Moffat & Williamson 35 service to get to and from Perth see our Day Trips page.
From Monday 5th May 2025 this Limited Stop service provides a direct link about every 2 hours day and night.
It provides:
A fast service between St Andrews, Auchtermuchty and Kinross
An alternative service to Cupar & Halbeath Park & Ride - adding to the X24 and X59
A late night connection for services to/from Edinburgh & Glasgow
There are special tickets for the 787 - but we think you should probably still ask for a Dayrider ticket if you don't have a pass...
