For the various Dayrider tickets that we recommend, prices are increasing as follows:
The North East Fife Adult Dayrider goes up from £8.50 to £9.00. (Group tickets for up to 5 people after 9am rises from £21.30 to £22.50.)
The East Scotland Adult Dayrider rises from £11.50 to £12.20. (Group tickets for up to 5 people after 9am goes up from £29.30 to £30.50.)
The Nightrider ticket - valid on all Stagecoach buses in Fife, Perthshire, Dundee and Angus between 6pm and 4am - goes up from £3.50 to £3.70.
Check out Child and Student Dayrider prices at: https://www.stagecoachbus.com/regionaltickets/east-scotland/st-andrews-cupar-and-the-east-neuk/dayrider?passengerClass=ADULT
It's worth noting that from 27th April you can buy Flexi-10 versions of Dayrider tickets - ten days for the price of 7.
From the same date - Sunday 27th April 2025 - you will no longer be able to buy a Smartcard on a Stagecoach bus. You can still buy tickets to load on an existing Smartcard either on the bus or using the Stagecoach App, and you can still buy Smartcards by post or at ticket offices when they are open. This reflects the move away from Smartcards towards buying tickets on the Stagecoach Smartphone App.
More details of the new timetables on Moffat & Williamson's website at https://moffat-williamson.co.uk/moffat-and-williamson-timetables
You can also check them out and see the intermediate stops on bustimes.org at: https://bustimes.org/operators/moffat-williamson
The 64, which we recommend as one of our Day Trips, is changing its terminus in St Andrews from South Street to outside the Students Union: https://bustimes.org/stops/6500N0444 - it no longer does a tour of St Andrews past the Byre Theatre and along South Street.
The timetable also changes so that it does not connect particularly well with the 95 - so we recommend changing at the Students Union and taking a cup of tea or coffee in the Rector's Cafe while waiting for your next bus...
The main advantage that we see in the changes to the 64 timetable is that every 2 hours it will pass through Giffordtown and therefore pass the Fife Zoo just over a mile north of Giffordtown. Adding to the selection of tourist destinations served by the 64 route.
You should ask the driver to stop at Fife Zoo as a "Hail & Ride" stop.
There are also changes to the 63, M36 and M65 timetables - generally just minor timing changes - the M36 will now incorporate a visit to Freuchie every hour.
Stagecoach have published a new timetable for the 65.
It's very similar to the previous timetable for much of the day - but alterations to early and late journey times show that from this date the service will be run out of St Andrews rather than Perth - first buses depart from St Andrews and last buses return to St Andrews.
The timetable published is a composite timetable that also includes details of the Moffat & Williamson 63, M36 and M65 buses - but does NOT show the timetable changes for these buses outlined in the Fife Council proposals below.
Moffat & Williamson often publish any timetable changes very close to the date of change - so it will be worth checking their website on 24th March... The changes to the actual bus times of their routes are expected to be minor, but we are expecting subtle changes to the route with variations on alternate hours...
At the same time Stagecoach are changing the timetables for the 99 bus between St Andrews and Dundee in anticipation of the introduction of electric buses later this year.
There is also another attempt at adding more routes around St Andrews with the introduction of services 90B and 90C.

On Sundays the 65 runs as a 65A via Auchtermuchty to allow connections with a revised 36 service running between Auchtermuchty and Glenrothes on Sundays:
Buses from St Andrews will depart at 20:05 and hourly thereafter instead of the usual weekday evening times of 19:50 and every hour after that. The new latest departure will be at 5 minutes past midnight getting to Crail High Street at 00:30 on Monday morning.
This allows the Sunday evening service to be operated by 3 buses and have better timings meeting trains at Leven.
Stagecoach are reducing the number of stops served by their express buses in order to improve speed and reliability. Details of the stops served on the X60 and X58 between St Andrews and Leven, and on the X59 between St Andrews and Glenrothes are shown in the pictures below.

It makes sense! The North East Fife Stagecoach Ticket Zone is expanding to include Leven and Glenrothes, so it will be as cheap to travel to Leven to catch the train as it is to travel to Leuchars or Dundee.
The new travel zone boundaries match the ABC Dundee & East Fife Zone boundary - something which again makes some sense.
The adult day ticket price stays the same at £8.50.
Other Stagecoach Zones are getting bigger at the same time - for more details see: https://www.stagecoachbus.com/service-updates/serviceupdatesarticle?SituationId=ID-27/05/2024-15:16:21:201
