Edinburgh - so popular that we have written some special "crib sheets" on catching the bus to Edinburgh - catching a Glasgow express from St Andrews and changing at Halbeath Park & Ride - to speed up your journey and give you more time in Edinburgh, The last bus back from Edinburgh is at 21:30 Monday to Saturday and that should get you on the last bus through Crail arriving at 01:00.
Glasgow - timings on this bus make for simpler connections in St Andrews. Again we have produced some "crib sheets" with suggested connections. The last weekday bus back from Glasgow is an X27 at 20:15 changing in Leven to the 95 that wanders around the East Neuk and gets to Crail at 01:00.

Stirling - is easiest to get to using the Stagecoach Express X22 from Dunfermline. 95 buses towards St Andrews approximately hourly from around 06:46 give easy changes to the X24 to Dunfermline and onto the X22. For example, the 06:46 from Pinkerton Road in Crail gets to St Andrews at 07:17 for the 07:40 X24 getting to Dunfermline at 09:14 for the 09:30 X22 getting to Stirling at 10:24. The last bus back from Stirling at 18:30 gets to Dunfermline at 19:24 where an X27 at 19:30 will get you to Leven for 20:58 connecting with the 21:20 95 getting to Crail High Street at 22:19.
Perth - from Monday 24th November 2025 the Stagecoach 65 service only runs between Newburgh and Perth. Moffat & Williamson are running a 35/35A bus between Cupar and Newburgh timed to connect with the 65 and with the X59/X24 services between Cupar and St Andrews.
Stagecoach & Moffat & Williamson have agreed to accept each others tickets between Cupar and Perth.
So, while it may now be quicker to travel between St Andrews and Perth using the Citylink/Megabus M8 service between Perth & Dundee and the Stagecoach 99 between Dundee and St Andrews, the spirit of this page is to list trips which can be done using the Stagecoach East Scotland Dayrider - and this will be the cheaper option for those of you who do not have Free Bus Passes.
The first bus from Crail that connects with the 35/65 to Perth is the 06:46 95 from Pinkerton Road, it gets to St Andrews at 07:17 for the 07:40 X24 to Cupar arriving outside Cupar Railway Station at 08:02 where you cross the road for the Moffat & Williamson 35 at 08:10 arriving at Newburgh Hill Road at 08:47 where you wait at the same stop for the Stagecoach 65 at 08:56 which gets to the middle of Perth at 09:33. This service repeats roughly hourly until the 16:49 95 from Pinkerton Road.
In the reverse direction, 65 buses depart Perth Bus Station at 5 or 10 minutes past the hour until 18:10 and can usually be caught at 10 to the hour from Perth Infirmary or following the departure from Perth Bus Station in central Perth.
That last 65 bus gets to Newburgh opposite Hill Road at 18:48 where a Moffat & Williamson 35A departs from the same stop at 19:02 getting to Cupar opposite the Railway Station at 19:52 where an X24 at 20:13 will take you to St Andrews Bus station for 20:35 connecting with a 95 at 20:50 getting to Crail at 21:15.
The evening 35A is timetabled to get to Abernethy Hotel to meet the stagecoach 56A which provides evening connections between Perth and Kinross.
So, it's possible to leave Perth Bus Station at 21:35 on a 56A, get to Abernethy Hotel at 22:03, change to a 35A at 22:15, get to Cupar at 23:12, change to a 59 at 23:25 getting to St Andrews at 23:45 for the 95 at 00:35 getting to Crail at 01:00...
Dundee - the 99 service between St Andrews and Dundee is so frequent that it's really easy to just hop from the 95 to the 99 at almost any time of day. It is worth allowing plenty of time for delays over the Tay Bridge or in pop-up roadworks around Leuchars or Guardbridge if your travel is intended to get you to a timed appointment. The last sensible bus back from Dundee is at 23:28 from Dundee Railway Station, 23:42 from Dundee Bus Station, 00:01 from Leuchars Railway Station getting to St Andrews for 00:13 and the late night 95 that departs at 00:35 and gets to Crail at 01:00.
Trips to Dundee can be done using the cheaper North East Fife Dayrider Ticket at £9.00 (from Sunday 27th April 2025).
Montrose and Stonehaven - changing at Dundee to the X7 will get you to various East Coast towns including Montrose and Stonehaven. An example journey would be to take the 95 at 08:49 from Pinkerton Road getting to St Andrews at 09:21 which should connect with a 99 getting to Dundee Bus Station for 10:04 - the X7 departs at 10:10 and gets to Montrose at 11:13 and Stonehaven at 12:02. The last through southbound X7 departs Stonehaven at 20:05, Montrose at 20:52 getting to Dundee at 21:51 for a 99 at 22:03 getting to St Andrews at 22:34 connecting with the 22:50 95 getting to Crail High Street at 23:15.
