Kinross & Dollar

Glenfarg Community Transport run an hourly service between Perth and Tillicoultry that fits in well with changing buses with the Stagecoach 65 from St Andrews by crossing the road at Bridge of Earn.

Their three 16-seat mini-buses follow a rural route via Glenfarg, Kinross and Dollar.

Stop off in Kinross for a visit to Loch Leven, or Dollar for Dollar Glen and Castle Campbell?

The service runs Monday to Saturday - there is no Sunday service.

As an example day trip, you could catch the 95 from Pinkerton Road Crail at 07:46 getting to St Andrews Bus Station at 08:17 for the 65 departing at 08:30 getting to Bridge of Earn at 09:34. Cross the road for the Glenfarg Community Transport 55 mini-bus departing at 09:47 and be in Kinross for 10:20 where the same bus continues as a number 23 getting to Dollar at 10:43 or Tillicoultry at 10:50

A return bus at 13:55 from Tillicoultry or 14:02 from Dollar takes a break at Kinross between 14:25 and 14:40 but gets back to Bridge of Earn for 15:12 where you cross the road for the 65 at 15:19 getting to St Andrews at 16:25 for the 95 at 16:35 and arrival in Pinkerton Road at 17:05.

The last through bus using this route is 1 hour later - but as the 95 departs St Andrews at 17:30 there is more chance of being late and missing it - we have a plan for what to do if you miss the 95 at 17:30, read more on our blog: https://95crailbus.substack.com/p/if-you-miss-the-95-from-st-andrews

After that bus your travel probably includes changing at Kinross to the Stagecoach X56 either northbound to Bridge of Earn or Perth or southbound to Halbeath Park and Ride and a change to an X24 or X59 for St Andrews. Check out these possibilities on the Stagecoach Journey Planner at https://www.stagecoachbus.com/plan-a-journey or Traveline Scotland at https://www.travelinescotland.com/

In Bridge of Earn if everything is on time cross the road to the stop outside the Village Inn to head south towards either Glenfarg (55) or Abernethy (65)

If your bus is running late you may want to change buses further south - on the road between Aberargie and Bridge of Earn.

If the bus is really late then you should probably get off the bus just south of the Aberargie roundabout where the A912 and A913 join.

A northbound 65 is probably due at the Maryland bus stop: https://bustimes.org/stops/64801488 at 26 minutes past the hour - walk between the houses round to the side of the A912 at Balnagowan: https://bustimes.org/stops/64803049 and wait for the 55 due around 51 minutes past the hour - which should cope with the 65 being 20 minutes or so late.

In the other direction the 55 arrives opposite Balnagowan: https://bustimes.org/stops/64803050 around 7 minutes past the hour until 16:07. Cross the road, walk past the houses to the A913 and cross that road as well to wait opposite Maryland: https://bustimes.org/stops/64801487 for the 65 due at 28 minutes past the hour until 16:28 - this should cope with the 55 being up to 15 minutes late - or more if the 65 is also late...

In Bridge of Earn the 65 performs an anti-clockwise loop down Heughfield Road, left into Forgandenny Road, left into Kintillo Road, left into Wicks O'Baiglie Road and back to Main Street.

This can delay the northbound arrival at the Village Inn stop... So if the 65 is running slightly late you may want to try to get off before it starts this loop, and cross the road for the southbound 55.

Strangely the timetables do not give the option of getting off the 65 at the stop "opposite Old Mill": https://bustimes.org/stops/64804195 - which would be the most sensible place to cross and catch the 55. If it was allowed, then the 65 should arrive at this stop around 31 minutes past the hour, and the 55 should be on the other side of the road "at Old Mill": https://bustimes.org/stops/64804196 around 47 minutes past the hour - saving you around 3 minutes otherwise taken by the 65 to do this loop around the streets...

As the 65 does seem to easily build up delays due to problems on its route, we suspect that the timetable it has been set is currently too demanding. So it may be that when the timetable is next updated there may be some attempt to speed up the route and this loop may be dropped?

If you are changing from the 55 to the 65 and need to gain these 3 minutes, you need to get off "opposite Old Mill" https://bustimes.org/stops/64804195 where the 55 is due around 11 minutes past the hour, and walk back on the same side of the road down Wicks O'Baiglie Road to the stop near Balmanno Park: https://bustimes.org/stops/64802269 where the 65 to St Andrews is due at 22 minutes past the hour.
