Day Trips on the Go-Flexi bus

There is a bus you can use all year round to get to rural sites near Crail - the Go-Flexi F4:

We recommend it for travelling to the Secret Bunker or National Trust for Scotland Kellie Castle.

But you can also use it for travelling to other rural spots - the start of a walk, for example.

And it will pick you up outside your own house in Crail!

Fife Council have recently updated their information on the various Go-Flexi bus services - you can find their information at http://go-flexi.org

The service is run by Moffat & Williamson and they have more details at: https://moffat-williamson.co.uk/go-flexi

The service accepts over-60 and under-22 bus passes and a variety of Moffat & Williamson tickets - such as their Adult Day Ticket at £6.40.

You can telephone 01382 540 624 to book the Go-Flexi service at least an hour before you want to travel.

The service operates Monday to Saturday - and on Friday and Saturday evenings the service runs until 11:30pm.

But there is no Sunday service.

New for 2024 is an App to run on your Apple or Android phone that allows you to book journeys on your smartphone - the relevant App link is at: https://link.eastne.uk/goflexi

Beware that once you "Submit" a booking request the App supplies more accurate pickup and arrival times and you have to "Accept Booking" before your booking expires - or "Decline" the proposed journey and submit a different request - otherwise when the expiry time arrives you will lose your booking...

There is an "App manual" online at: https://www.fife.gov.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0036/567846/How-to-Use-the-Go-Flexi-App.pdf with more advice on using the App.

If you are coming from outwith the coverage area, you can arrange for the Flexi-Bus to pick you up in Crail, Anstruther or any of the other Bus Interchange Points marked on the map.

The F4 route is part of a range of services covering North East Fife - to use one of the other services you will need to travel to that area or one of its Bus Interchange Points - and if this is your plan you may find it useful to buy an ABC East Fife Day ticket at £11.20 (to cover travel on both Stagecoach and Moffat & Williamson buses).

The rules about how far the bus can take you can be quite complicated - and the Go-Flexi bus is not intended to replace the normal bus services, but rather to serve places that the normal bus doesn't get to.

You may have to use a normal bus to get to or from an "Interchange point" in order to connect with the Go-Flexi bus.

The Go-Flexi bus is often used to fill in for the normal bus if that is diverted off its normal route by roadworks.

Note that not all the information online has been updated with the new F7 and F8 zones.

For example the Moffat & Williamson map still shows the old numbers, and the old Fife Council information is still available at:

https://www.fife.gov.uk/kb/docs/articles/roads,-travel-and-parking/journey-planning-and-timetables/go-flexi/routes

This includes the previous, now out of date, F4 route leaflet from Fife Council - it may be useful in giving other information about how the service works: https://www.fife.gov.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0019/160327/c64_F4_leaflet.pdf

Other councils also operate similar services.

For example, Perth & Kinross council operate services between Kinross, Dollar and Milnathort to cover Pool and Yetts of Muckhart, and Highland Council operate a variety of Dial-A-Bus services.

Traveline Scotland have been changing their website and we found their list of Demand Responsive Transport providers is at: https://transportscotland-lts.trapezegroupazure.co.uk/cms/page/drt-ct-info - but this looks like a temporary web address - we found it on a link from https://www.travelinescotland.com/cms/page/public-transport - so that may be a better page to start from if the direct link stops working...
