To Edinburgh on Saturdays

The times quoted for buses leaving Crail are based on the times at Pinkerton Road - if you are leaving from the centre of Crail you should be able to catch these buses slightly later in the journey by walking to the stop in St Andrews Road or the stop outside Penman's Butchers depending on the direction of the bus.
Most journeys of the 95 into St Andrews now go via the Community Hospital and while that change delays the arrival at the Bus Station it can provide an opportunity to change to an X58 to Edinburgh...
From Saturday 3rd August 2024 there are early morning 95 buses on Saturdays designed to meet up with trains from Leven - but they start from Toll Road, Cellardyke - so you need to get there by some means before you start your bus journey:
The 04:35 95 from Toll Road, Cellardyke gets to Leven at 05:26 - you are intended to catch the 05:39 train from Leven getting to Edinburgh, Waverley at 06:46 - but it's probably cheaper to catch the X60 bus departing Leven Bus Station at 05:35 getting to Edinburgh Bus Station at 07:15.
The 05:15 95 from Toll Road, Cellardyke gets to Leven at 06:06 - you are intended to catch the 06:15 train from Leven getting to Edinburgh, Waverley at 07:25 - but it's probably cheaper to catch the X60A bus departing Leven Bus Station at 06:35 getting to Edinburgh Bus Station at 08:15.
The 06:15 95 from Toll Road, Cellardyke gets to Leven at 07:06 - you are intended to catch the 07:15 train from Leven getting to Edinburgh, Waverley at 08:23 - but it's probably cheaper to catch the X60 bus departing Leven Bus Station at 07:35 getting to Edinburgh Bus Station at 09:15. There is a chance you could catch the 07:10 X27 from Leven to Halbeath Park & Ride arriving at 08:23 where an X59 at 08:25 will get you to Edinburgh at 09:10 if you think that's worth the risk of missing one of these connections?
The 06:35 95 from Crail High Street gets to Leven at 07:35 where the 07:55 X58 doesn't get to Edinburgh until 09:45 - so it's faster to wait for the next bus via St Andrews:
The 06:36 95 from Pinkerton Road gets to St Andrews Bus Station for 07:07 where you might just catch the 07:10 X59 getting to Edinburgh Bus Station at 09:10. (If you miss this connection the X24 at 07:40 gets to Halbeath at 08:53 for an X54 at 09:05 getting to Edinburgh at 09:50.)
The 07:40 95 from Pinkerton Road gets to Leven at 08:50. An 08:55 X58 gets to Edinburgh at 10:45.
The 07:46 95 from Pinkerton Road gets to St Andrews at 08:17. You need to wait for the 08:40 X24 which gets to Halbeath at 09:53 for an X54 at 10:05 which gets to Edinburgh at 10:50.
The 08:49 95 from Pinkerton Road travels via St Andrews Community Hospital and is scheduled to reach St Andrews Bus Station after the X59 has departed - so, if you get off the 95 at the stop in Largo Road outside Aldi at 09:16 then the next bus at the same stop should be an X58 at 09:17 which gets to Edinburgh at 11:45. If the X58 is missing the Moffat and Williamson 64 no longer passes at a suitable time - so you need to have checked your smartphone and stay on to the Bus Station for an X24 at 09:40 which gets to Halbeath Park & Ride for 10:53 - change to an X54 departing at 11:05 which gets to Edinburgh Bus Station at 11:50.
The 08:55 95 from Pinkerton Road gets to Leven at 10:05 - an X60 at 10:35 gets you to Edinburgh Bus Station at 12:15. If this 95 is early and you can get on a 44 due to depart Leven at 10:05 then this gets to Glenrothes at 10:30 where you can catch the X54 at 10:40 getting to Edinburgh at 11:50 - or if the X58 though Leven is late then go for that instead as it's timetabled to get to Edinburgh at 11:45 (those of you watching your live bus maps may spot the late X58 earlier in its journey and decide to switch to it at Upper Largo if the 95 gets there first).
The 09:49 95 has the same choices as the 08:49 (but an hour later). This gets you to Edinburgh at 12:45 or 12:50.
Buses at 09:55, 10:49 and so on at these times past each hour until 15:55 inclusive operate as described for the two buses above.
The 16:49 95 follows roughly the same pattern with an X58 getting to Edinburgh at 19:45 or an X24 at 17:45 getting to Halbeath at 18:58 for an X54 at 19:03 getting to Edinburgh at 19:48.
The 17:05 95 gets to Leven at 18:15 for an 18:35 X60 getting to Edinburgh at 20:15.
The 17:49 95 gets to St Andrews Bus Station at 18:21 where an X58 at 18:25 should get you to Leven for 19:00 and a change of bus to an X61 departing at 19:05 and arriving in Edinburgh for 20:48. (Or catch the 18:45 X24 from St Andrews and change at Halbeath to the same X61.)
The 18:00 95 gets to Leven at 19:10 where an X58 at 19:30 should get you to Edinburgh for 21:18.
The 18:49 95 gets to St Andrews at 19:21 - an X58 at 19:25 should get you to Leven for 20:00 and a change to an X61 departing at 20:05 getting to Edinburgh at 21:48. If you miss the X58 you can wait until 20:15 for an X59A getting to Edinburgh at 22:18.
The 19:15 from Crail High Street gets to Leven at 20:15 where you should be able to catch an X58 at 20:30 getting to Edinburgh at 22:18.
The 19:19 from Crail High Street gets to St Andrews at 19:45 where you should be able to catch an X59A 20:15 which gets to Edinburgh at 22:18.
The 20:15 from Crail High Street gets to Leven at 21:15 where an X58 at 21:30 should get you to Edinburgh at 23:18.
The 20:19 from Crail High Street gets to St Andrews at 20:45 where an X59A departs at 21:15 which reaches Edinburgh at 23:18.
The 21:15 from Crail High Street gets to Leven at 22:15 where an X58 at 22:30 should get you to Edinburgh at 00:18.
The 21:19 from Crail High Street gets to St Andrews at 21:45 you have probably just missed the 59 which departs at 21:45 and gets to Glenrothes at 22:38 for a connection with an X59A at 23:05 getting to Edinburgh at 00:18.
To get to Edinburgh later you need to go via Dundee!
Megabus, Ember and Flixbus timetables change quite frequently, often without much notice. So, it's probably best to use the Traveline Scotland Journey Planner if you want to travel late at night.
