From Glasgow on Weekdays
This page HAS been edited for the new timetables due Monday 29th July 2024.
These pages are written to help you make quick changes that might just enable you to get to your destination sooner.
If you are happier to have more time allowed for changing buses then you may prefer to use the Stagecoach Journey Planner.
There are two Stagecoach Express Buses from Glasgow - the X24 and the X27 (changing to an X59 at Halbeath Park and Ride).
There are also Megabus, "ember" and Flixbus services to Dundee which may help if the Stagecoach Express buses are having problems for any reason - but beware that the Tay Bridge is the most vulnerable link in bad weather, so it's best to stick to the Stagecoach Expresses in such times.
Megabus is the most useful of these as they tend to run hourly to Dundee. But if it's busy in Glasgow then you may just want to get away on the first bus that has a space, and any of these buses will do.
Here are the times for buses when everything is running to timetable:
The hourly Megabus is a fairly fast service to St Andrews but the time taken waiting for connections to Crail and the risk of traffic problems over the Tay Bridge mean that we recommend using the more frequent Stagecoach Express services for most of the day.
Megabus, Ember and Flixbus timetables change quite frequently, often without much notice. So, it's probably best to use the Traveline Scotland Journey Planner if you want to investigate using these services - remember to "untick" train to avoid the more expensive suggestions...
The 06:15 Stagecoach Express X27 from Glasgow Buchanan Bus Station gets to Halbeath Park & Ride at 07:47 missing the X59 which departed at 07:40 - so it's as fast to wait for the X24 below:
The 06:45 X24 gets to St Andrews at 09:30 where you have to wait until 10:25 for the 95 getting to Pinkerton Road at 10:55.
The 07:15 X27 gets to Halbeath at 08:47 for the 08:49 X59 arriving in St Andrews at 10:00 and that 10:25 95 to Pinkerton Road for 10:55.
These two services repeat their problems every hour - catch the X24 and wait a long while in St Andrews or catch the X27 and run the risk of missing your connection at Halbeath, until:
(Remembering that a couple of the schoolday afternoon departures - at 13:25 and 14:25 - from St Andrews omit the Pinkerton Road loop.)
The 13:45 X24 gets to St Andrews at 16:30 for the 16:35 95 getting to Pinkerton Road at 17:05.
The 14:15 X27 gets to Halbeath at 15:47 for the X54 at 16:04 arriving in Dairsie at 17:04 and from Monday 19th August 2024 you can catch a 65 at 17:09 which gets you to St Andrews at 17:25 for the 17:30 95 arriving at Pinkerton Road at 18:00.
The 14:45 X24 gets to St Andrews for 17:30 just missing the 17:30 95 so you may end up on the 95 at 18:50 getting to Crail High Street at 19:15. But, this is one time at which a two-bus trip via Anstruther may save time - take the 17:55 X61 to Anstruther Harbour arriving at 18:15 where a 95 at 18:31 will get you to Pinkerton Road for 18:49.
The 15:15 X27 gets to Halbeath at 16:47 for the X59 at 16:54 getting to St Andrews at 18:05 and a connection with the 95 at 18:50 getting to Crail High Street at 19:15.
The 15:45 X24 gets to St Andrews at 18:30 for the 95 at 18:50 getting to Crail High Street at 19:15.
The 16:15 X27 gets to Leven at 19:03 for the 95 at 19:20 getting to Crail at 20:19.
The 16:45 X24 gets to St Andrews at 19:35 for the 95 at 19:50 getting to Crail at 20:15.
The 17:15 X27 gets to Leven at 20:03 for the 95 at 20:20 getting to Crail at 21:19.
The 17:45 X24 gets to St Andrews at 20:35 for the 95 at 20:50 getting to Crail at 21:15.
The 18:15 X27 gets to Leven at 20:58 for the 21:20 95 arriving at Crail at 22:19.
The 18:45 X24 terminates in Glenrothes at 20:39 where an 59 at 20:50 will take you to St Andrews for 21:40 and a 21:50 95 getting to Crail at 22:15.
The 19:15 X27 gets to Leven at 21:58 for the 22:20 95 getting to Crail at 23:19.
The 19:45 X24 gets to Glenrothes at 21:36 where a 21:50 59 will get you to St Andrews for 22:40 and the 22:50 95 getting to Crail at 23:15.
The 20:15 X27 gets to Leven at 22:53 for a connection with the 23:20 95 which gets to Cellardyke at 00:10 and from 14th August 2023 this bus turns into an X60 and travels to St Andrews before becoming the 00:35 95 arriving in Crail at 01:00.
The 21:00 X24A is too late to connect with this late night 95 - so you might end up travelling via Dundee - it's probably best to use the Traveline Scotland Journey Planner if you want to investigate using services via Dundee - remember to "untick" train to avoid the more expensive suggestions...
