There are two slow buses from Cupar to St Andrews - the 64 and the 63 (from Monday 19th August 2024). And there are now three fast buses, the X24 and X59 expresses and the 65 Perth to St Andrews bus.
The Moffat & Williamson 64 runs from Cupar Crossgate outside WH Smith - the time of this bus can vary and you probably need to check the timetable to see if its timing suits you.
The 63 is operated by Moffat and Williamson and from Monday 19th August 2024 replaces the 94/94A leaving Cupar Crossgate outside the Central Cafe at about 07:42 and then hourly from about 09:17 until late with evening journeys travelling direct to St Andrews and numbered M65. This bus now arrives in St Andrews at the back of the Bus Station at the Petheram Bridge Car Park bus stop.
The X24 and X59 leave from opposite Cupar rail station - Stagecoach are attempting to make a service that runs every 30 minutes - but being long distance services they often suffer from delays earlier in their route - and their timetable is not so regular as the 64 and 63.
Here is a list of the latest connections that might connect with the 95 leaving St Andrews:
The 05:38 X59 gets to St Andrews at 06:00 for the 06:08 95 getting to Crail High Street at 06:35.
The 07:13 X24 gets to St Andrews at 07:35 for the 07:43 95 getting to Pinkerton Road at 08:13.
The 08:03 65 gets to St Andrews at 08:25 - for the 08:35 95 getting to Pinkerton Road at 09:05.
The 08:28 X59 gets to St Andrews at 08:50 for the 09:25 95 getting to Pinkerton Road at 09:55.
The 09:38 X59 gets to St Andrews at 10:00 for the 10:25 95 getting to Pinkerton Road at 10:55.
The X59 repeats hourly - apart from the detail of the 13:25 and 14:25 departures of the 95 tending to miss out Pinkerton Road on schooldays.
If you miss the 15:38 X59:
The 16:03 65 should arrive at St Andrews at 16:25 and connect with a 16:35 95 getting to Pinkerton Road at 17:05. If this is a Friday before a Market Day you may need to catch the 65 one minute earlier on Bonnygate opposite Provost Wynd.
The 16:46 ELM1 from the stop opposite Provost Wynd on West Port/Bonnygate only runs on Elmwood College days but has the advantage of going direct to Crail where it arrives on St Andrews Road at 17:25.
A 17:03 65 should get you to St Andrews for 17:25 for the 17:30 95 getting to Pinkerton Road at 18:00. If this is a Friday before a Market Day you may need to catch the 65 one minute earlier on Bonnygate opposite Provost Wynd. If you miss this 95, this is one time at which a two-bus trip via Anstruther may save time - take the 17:55 X61 to Anstruther Harbour arriving at 18:15 where a 95 at 18:31 will get you to Pinkerton Road for 18:49.
The 18:15 65 will get you to St Andrews at 18:37 - to connect with the 18:50 95 getting to Crail High Street at 19:15. If this is a Friday before a Market Day you may need to catch the 65 one minute earlier on Bonnygate opposite Provost Wynd.
There is a 19:13 X24 getting to St Andrews at 19:35 for the 19:50 95 getting to Crail High Street at 20:15.
There is one more 65 at 20:15 getting to St Andrews at 20:37 for the 20:50 95 getting to Crail High Street at 21:15. If this is a Friday before a Market Day you may need to catch the 65 one minute earlier on Bonnygate opposite Provost Wynd.
The 21:20 59 from opposite Cupar rail station should get to St Andrews at 21:40 for the 21:50 95 getting to Crail High Street at 22:15.
The 22:20 59 from opposite Cupar rail station should get to St Andrews at 22:40 for the 22:50 95 getting to Crail High Street at 23:15.
The 64 from Crossgate WHSmith at 23:28 is probably the last useful bus - it gets to St Andrews South Street at 00:12 in time for the late night 95 departing St Andrews Bus Station at 00:35 and getting to Crail at 01:00.
Your final chance is a 23:47 M65 from Crossgate Central Cafe getting to Petheram Bridge car park at 00:18 for the same 95.
