From Cupar on Weekdays

These pages are written to help you make quick changes that might just enable you to get to your destination sooner.

If you are happier to have more time allowed for changing buses then you may prefer to use the Stagecoach Journey Planner.

There are two slow buses from Cupar to St Andrews - the 64 and the 94/94A. And there are two fast buses, the X24 and X59 expresses.

The Moffat & Williamson 64 runs from Cupar Crossgate outside WH Smith - because its route varies each hour the time of this bus varies every hour and you probably need to check the timetable to see if its timing suits you.

The 94/94A is operated by Moffat and Williamson from Monday 14th August 2023  leaves Cupar Crossgate outside the Central Cafe at 07:42 and then hourly from 09:17 until late. This bus now arrives in St Andrews at the back of the Bus Station at the Petheram Bridge Car Park bus stop - and its route and timing does vary in the evenings.

The X24 and X59 leave from opposite Cupar rail station - Stagecoach are attempting to make a service that runs every 30 minutes - but being long distance services they often suffer from delays earlier in their route - and their timetable is not so regular as the 64 and 94/94A.

Here is a list of the latest connections that might connect with the 95 leaving St Andrews:

The 05:38 X59 gets to St Andrews at 06:00 for the 06:08 95 getting to Crail High Street at 06:35.

The 06:53 X59 gets to St Andrews at 07:15 and a long wait for the 07:43 95 getting to Pinkerton Road at 08:13.

The 07:42 94A gets to St Andrews at 08:13 - or the 07:53 X59 gets to St Andrews at 08:15 - both connect with the 08:35 95 getting to Pinkerton Road at 09:05.

The 08:38 X59 gets to St Andrews at 09:00 for the 09:25 95 getting to Pinkerton Road at 09:55

The X59 repeats hourly - apart from the detail of the 13:25 and 14:25 departures of the 95 tending to miss out Pinkerton Road on schooldays.

But from 09:35 the 64/64A is a possible alternative route to connecting with the 95 - you catch the bus at Cupar Crossgate outside WH Smith and get off in St Andrews either outside the Byre Theatre or on Market Street depending on the route that the bus takes and cross the road if necessary for the 95 - departure times in Cupar are variable: 09:35, 10:49, 11:40, 12:44, 13:40, 14:44, 15:40, 16:44 - later buses don't connect well.

If you miss the 15:38 X59 or 15:40 64:

The 16:08 X24 should arrive at St Andrews at 16:30 and just connect with a 16:35 95 getting to Pinkerton Road at 17:05.

The 16:46 ELM1 from the stop opposite Provost Wynd on West Port/Bonnygate only runs on Elmwood College days but has the advantage of going direct to Crail where it arrives on St Andrews Road at 17:25.

A 16:58 X59 or an on time 17:08 X24 should get you to St Andrews for 17:20 or 17:30 respectively for the 17:35 95 getting to Pinkerton Road at 18:05.

The 17:58 X59 or 18:08 X24 will get you to St Andrews at 18:20 or 18:30 - but the 18:17 94 should get you there at 18:48 and still just connect with the 18:50 95 getting to Crail High Street at 19:15.

This is your dilemma at this time of night - do you give yourself plenty of time to change buses with the 64 from WH Smith; or from opposite Cupar rail station the X59 (or 59 or X59A) at 18:58, 19:58, 20:40 or 21:40; or the X24 at 19:13 or 20:13. Or, take advantage of the express versions of the 94/94A from Central Cafe at 19:17 to 22:17?

From Monday 14th August 2023 there is a late night 95 service that departs St Andrews Bus Station at 00:35 and arrives in Crail at 01:00 - there are various service that will connect with this: the 64 at 22:13 or 23:19 which gets to South Street at 23:56 with a walk to the Bus Station, or the 94A at 23:47 which gets to St Andrews Bus Station at 00:18, or an X59A at 22:40 or 23:40 which gets to St Andrews for 00:00. A number of these buses will leave you waiting for over an hour in St Andrews, so you might choose to wait somewhere else on your route?

Leaving things until the 23:47 94A is risky as some early versions of the timetable have this bus running 30 minutes later...
